Health & Disability Intelligence (HDI) is the epidemiology group for the Ministry of health located in the Health and Disability Systems Strategy Directorate.

HDI has the Ministry of Health's statutory responsibility to monitor the health of the New Zealand population by analysing health outcomes, risks and determinants to measure how healthy the New Zealand population is over time and to examine inequalities in health across regional boundaries and between various population groups.

To achieve its mission of Charting our Health, the mission and overall goal of Health & Disability Intelligence is to provide strategic leadership and co-ordination for transferring knowledge throughout the sector.

The three core values of integrity, professionalism, co-operation and security are the guiding principles and behaviours for Health & Disability Intelligence.

PHIOnline (www.phionline.moh.govt.nz) is a tool for the visualisation of health and related information. It displays an interactive map with linked tables and charts which allow data to be viewed in multiple dimensions, and is an alternative way to viewing information.
