Health for all people

Public health focuses on promoting good community health.

The Ministry of Health is committed to developing and carrying out policies and strategies that work toward reducing inequalities.

The Ministry aims to:
      • improve the overall health of the population
      • improve the health status of Māori
      • reduce inequalities in health.

“Public health makes a difference when society moves collectively on an issue. The basis of effective public health action is not a single service or intervention, but the organised efforts of society itself.”
